The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to ensuring our justice system is as efficient and effective as possible to the benefit of all Tasmanians.
A suite of new legislation is being developed to replace the Justices Act 1959 with a contemporary legislative framework for the administration of justice in the Magistrates Court Criminal and General jurisdiction.
The four new Bills will provide a legislative basis for implementing case management principles and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, both of which offer opportunities for an improved criminal justice system for the Tasmanian community.

Consultation on the draft legislation will occur prior to them being introduced to Parliament later this year. Consultation will occur in three phases, beginning with key stakeholders and continuing through to general community consultation.
