New ICT jobs in Tasmania

Supporting and creating new jobs is this Government’s number one priority, and will be a key theme of this week’s State Budget.

That’s why it such great news that Australia’s largest locally-owned ICT company, in partnership with the Government, has agreed to expand its operations in Tasmania.

UXC will transform its existing 12 person operation in Hobart into a large Customer Support Centre, creating 50 new full time jobs, and securing the existing positions.

The expansion of UXC in Tasmania is a major vote of confidence in Tasmania’s economy, and an opportunity for jobs growth in the rapidly advancing sector.

To ensure UXC expanded into Hobart, rather than taking these jobs offshore, the Government has agreed to provide $1.7 million over five years to establish the new support centre in Hobart.

The Department of State Growth is working with UXC to find appropriate office-space, as well as exploring opportunities for a collaborative graduate employment program with the University of Tasmania.

Information and Communication Technology is a rapidly expanding industry and offers huge opportunity for economic growth and jobs in a range of other sectors.

We are committed to building on the momentum in the economy and creating jobs, and this agreement with UXC will help to achieve this.

Provision for the $1.7 million in jobs-support will be made in Thursday’s budget.
