New homes boost to assist those in need

The $14.2 million Trinity Hill Youth Accommodation and Training facility in North Hobart is on track to be completed in just over a month.

This important facility will provide a total of 46 independent and supported living units for young people aged between 16 – 25 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, or who have a disability.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to taking action to reduce housing stress and homelessness in Tasmania.

That is why this week we will launch our Affordable Housing Strategy, providing a ten-year vision for affordable homes for vulnerable Tasmanians and its accompanying 4 year action plan which will  outline the Government’s priorities over the next four years.

As one of its initiatives, the Affordable Housing Strategy includes an immediate $5 million investment to deliver 20 new homes for those in need, in areas of high demand close to services.

The program will purchase dwellings from builders and developers under a request for tender process.

The development of more affordable housing properties will continue to stimulate the construction industry and provide hundreds of jobs for Tasmanians.

The Trinity Hill project alone has provided work for 312 people on site and generated around $34 million in economic activity.

The Government is committed to ensuring vulnerable Tasmanians have access to more homes that are safe, affordable and appropriate.

The Affordable Housing Strategy will outline how we plan to achieve this as well as inject millions into the local economy, creating jobs for Tasmanians.
