The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to building Tasmania’s future by delivering real and sustainable jobs, new training opportunities and a strong manufacturing sector.
This is why we developed an Advanced Manufacturing Action Plan and today this Plan took another step forward with the opening of the new Elphinstone Group Simulated Work Environment (SWE) at the Tasmanian Manufacturing Centre of Excellence, which the Tasmanian Government helped establish in Burnie 9 months ago.
The SWE provides a solid home base for advancing training opportunities in the North-West to ensure the practical skills our advanced manufacturing industries need are available to them through the right people with the right know-how.
At the same time it will provide new job opportunities for young Tasmanians in this thriving sector – young Tasmanians looking for their chance at building a new and rewarding career.
The Elphinstone Group SWE is the newest addition to the Manufacturing Centre of Excellence, the industry-led manufacturing centre focused on innovation, research, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Its focus has been on transitioning the Tasmanian manufacturing industry to a diverse and globally competitive sector by demonstrating the benefits of using standard work, teamwork and communication using Elphinstone Production System methodologies.
The principles and practices learned during the hands-on interactive sessions can be transferred to all work environments including office environments and across all levels of employees within in an organisation. The SWE extends beyond manufacturing – it is an opportunity for all businesses.
Further information on the Tasmanian Manufacturing Centre of Excellence and the Elphinstone Group Simulated Work Environment (SWE) at Burnie is available through the Tasmanian Minerals and Energy Council (www.tasminerals.com.au).
