The Dunalley Primary School today officially celebrates a fresh start, benefitting from a $6 million rebuild following the devastating bushfires in January 2013 to ensure teaching and learning could continue uninterrupted following severe weather events.
I thank the Dunalley Primary School and the local community, who have shown patience, support and understanding after having to operate out of temporary buildings for over two years.
I join Principal Susan Jeffery in praising the efforts of all who rallied together to ensure students could attend a safe learning environment each day, and in particular Sorrel Council, after flooding swept through the school last year.
It is great to see students settled into their classrooms and back into the school routine after all the necessary building works and checks were undertaken, and that they can now access ongoing quality education in a positive and bright environment.
Designed by Dunbabin Architects and built by Macquarie Builders, the new school facilities include an early learning centre, four general learning areas, administration, library, as well as a multipurpose room for after-hours community use, acknowledging Dunalley Primary School’s important role in the local community.
Providing these students with a modern learning environment is a key part of continuing to improve learning outcomes, creating a job-ready generation able to Build Tasmania’s Future.
