New Dunalley Police Station a Sign of Tasman Bushfire Recovery

Today's opening of the new Dunalley Police Station demonstrates that the Tasman community is well on the path to recovery after the devastating fires of January 2013.

This new station and officer's residence also highlights the strength of the commitment of Tasmania Police, and of the Government generally, to serving the Dunalley and Tasman communities.

While today we celebrate the rebuilding of the police station, fittingly the Liberal Government is getting on with the job of rebuilding our frontline services.

We are keeping our promises and that includes recruiting an additional 108 police officers to restore Tasmania Police to its establishment before the previous Labor-Green government's cuts.

Right now, new recruits are being trained at the Police Academy and more courses will begin next year.

More officers on the frontline will help Tasmania Police to continue to provide a strong presence in communities like Dunalley while also delivering specialist capabilities, such as the recently established Serious Organised Crime Capability.

On behalf of the Government, I was pleased to join Commissioner Darren Hine in officially opening the new Dunalley Police Station, and I commend the officers based here on their efforts to keep this community safe.
