New DPIPWE jobs in Biosecurity and AgriGrowth in the North

The Hodgman Liberal Government is getting on with its commitment to move 100 DPIPWE jobs to North and North-West Tasmania and employ more AgriGrowth and Biosecurity staff.

Tasmania’s North and North-West are key contributors to our State’s economic growth through our primary industries such as agriculture, agribusiness and fisheries.

To support our farmers and boost biosecurity, which is vitally important for protecting Tasmania’s reputation for quality primary produce and our natural environment, four new Northern based positions have been advertised.

Two new AgriGrowth Liaison officers will provide support to primary producers who need to conduct business directly with DPIPWE.

The new Biosecurity officers on King and Flinders Island will assist in implementing biosecurity plans being developed for the Islands, which includes support for landholders to tackle weeds, pests and other issues affecting agricultural production and local biosecurity priorities.

These new jobs in AgriGrowth and Biosecurity, in conjunction with relocating 100 DPIPWE jobs, are part of the Hodgman Liberal Government’s pledge to stimulate economic growth and innovation in North and North-West Tasmania.

Today DPIPWE also commenced the consultation with staff and unions on the process for relocating the 100 jobs. The consultation will be in two phases and are an opportunity to explain how this plan will be achieved and seek feedback .

It is important to emphasise that there will be no forced relocations as a result of this commitment. The movement of positions will occur through natural staff turnover and an Expression of Interest process for Southern-based employees who, through the support of an incentive program, may volunteer to relocate to the Northern Tasmania.

Moving these positions to where they can be best utilised by farmers and agribusiness is also a key part of the Tasmanian Government’s $150 million AgriFood Plan 2018-23 and growing the value of the agricultural sector to $10 billion by 2050.
