New dental clinic a lot to smile about

Central Coast children have a lot to smile about with the recent rebuilding of the Ulverstone Dental Clinic.

Based on the grounds of Ulverstone High School, the new clinic will provide a universal dental service for children and young people aged from birth to 17 years from Central Coast.

The new two-surgery, $700,000 clinic replaces an old, outdated clinic that was demolished.

The Children's Dental Service provides a range of dental services including relief of pain, restorative and preventative services, and maintenance of dental health, with all services bulk billed to Medicare so there are no out-of-pocket costs to families.

The clinic is staffed by Dental Therapists and Dental Assistants, Monday to Friday, and treats about 2000 children every year.

The Liberal Government is committed to preventative health to help achieve our vision of Tasmania becoming the healthiest state by 2025. Healthy teeth and gums means a healthier young person.

In terms of oral health in children, we are performing well across key indicators.

Our children were found to have a lower than national average experience of decay in both their primary and permanent dentition, as well as a lower experience of untreated decay in both.

Tasmanian children were also the most likely in the nation to have made their first dental visit for a check-up.

Through their new clinic, the staff at the Ulverstone Dental Clinic will continue to make a great contribution to the health and wellbeing of local children into the future.
