New Chief Veterinary Officer for Tasmania starts

I am pleased to announce that a new Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) for Tasmania has started work after an extensive national recruitment process.

Dr Kevin de Witte was appointed by the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment to fill this important role. Dr de Witte comes to Tasmania with a wide range of knowledge and skills, having 35 years’ experience in the animal health and welfare industry, most recently as the Northern Territory’s CVO.

The CVO position provides independent specialist and strategic advice on matters relating to livestock and wildlife disease and welfare management, and represents Tasmania’s position in national animal biosecurity and animal welfare policy making forums.

I would like to wish Dr de Witte all the best in his new role.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing CVO Rod Andrewartha, who retired from this position in 2018, for his significant contribution over the last 19 years.
