New Chair of the Road Safety Advisory Council

I am pleased to announce Mr Garry Bailey has been appointed as the Chair of the Road Safety Advisory Council (RSAC) for the next three years.

RSAC fulfils a very important role in the development of the Government’s road safety policy, providing recommendations and advice that will help us achieve our target of reducing the number of fatalities and serious injuries on Tasmania’s roads to zero by 2050.

Mr Bailey is a former editor of The Mercury newspaper and has been a tireless road safety advocate for many years, most recently as a member of the RACT’s southern regional advisory committee.

I congratulate Mr Bailey on his appointment and look forward to his future contributions in helping to reduce Tasmania’s road toll.

I would also like to pay tribute to the outgoing Chair Mr Jim Cox for his tireless contribution over the last four years, especially for his work on the Towards Zero – Tasmanian Road Safety Strategy 2017-2026 and Action Plan 2017-2019.  Mr Cox's leadership and experience was instrumental in the development of this work and he finishes his term with the gratitude of the Government and the road safety community.
