New Chair Appointed to MAST

The Hodgman Liberal Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Sue Smith as the new chair of Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST).

The former President of the Legislative Council, and the very popular Member for Montgomery until her retirement in 2013, Mrs Smith will bring a wealth of experience to the role.

She is currently a director of the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association and is chair of the Devonport and Central Coast councils' shared Audit Committee.

MAST's role has become more prominent in recent years with the growth in registrations of recreational boats and the increase in the number and quality of boating facilities around the State.

The change of government provided an opportunity for board renewal at MAST, and, on behalf of the Government, I commend and thank former directors, particularly former chair Simon Fitzgerald, for their guidance of the authority over the years.

MAST will continue to communicate the unique nature of Tasmania's growing marine commercial sector to national authorities, while working closely with the local industry and other stakeholders.
