The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to providing improved support to Tasmanians living with a disability.
Eleven refurbished buses, all fitted with disabled access and seating, are entering service with Metro Tasmania to make it easier for people with a disability to travel on public transport.
Purchased from Australia Pacific Airport (Melbourne), the buses are being refurbished in Tasmania and will replace older vehicles in service, decreasing the overall average age of the current Metro fleet.
Several are already in service in Burnie, delivering a more comfortable ride for passengers in the North-West.
When the $2.4 million project is completed, nine of the buses will be based at the Burnie depot – out of a total local fleet of 15 buses – with the other two buses to operate on non-urban routes in the Hobart Channel area.
All 11 buses are 11.9 metres in length with aluminium bodies, which will reduce corrosion issues.
