New buses to create jobs in the North West

The Hodgman Liberal Government’s number one priority is jobs and our commitment to build 100 new buses will create over 40 new full time jobs for the North West.

It was my pleasure today, joined by the Premier and our Braddon MPs, to visit the facility in Wynyard where Southern Prospect will carry out the construction and fit out of the new fleet.

At least 24 new full time jobs will be created at the facility and further jobs will be created in the supply chain, which is a fantastic result both for the North West manufacturing industry and for the local economy.

It demonstrates the renewed confidence in the sector and confirms the flow-on benefits of our Buy Local Policy that is aiding businesses and creating jobs all across the state.

The new fleet represents the single biggest investment in public transport in Tasmania’s history and reinforces our commitment to create jobs and provide a sustainable public transport system for Tasmanians.

The new buses will be manufactured over a period of four years, with the first vehicles expected to be delivered during 2017/18.
