New appointments to the Tasmanian Veterans' Advisory Council

Four new appointments to the Tasmanian Veterans’ Advisory Council will bring a broad range of experience from around Tasmania and a shared vision to improve the lives of Tasmania’s veteran and ex-serving community.

The Council is made up of men and women with a diverse range of experience, from those who are currently serving, those who have served (including reservists), to family members, partners and legatees from many conflicts and peace keeping operations.

The Council is an important advisory and consultation mechanism for the Hodgman Liberal Government, particularly as Australia commemorates the Centenary of World War One.

It provides information and support on issues affecting our community, and encourages cooperation across all veterans’ organisations in Tasmania.

The Council also provides a forum for the serving and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force and their families to communicate directly with Government.

Congratulations to the new members and also to those existing and re-appointed members of the Council which does an outstanding job in representing the ex-serving community and also the Tasmanian community in general.

The four new members on the Council are:

  • Mr Steve Smith from Blackmans Bay
  • Ms Annette Wyatt from Taroona
  • Ms Raylene Garwood from Bridgenorth
  • Mr Andrew Dixon from Claremont.

They join four re-appointed members:

  • Mr Michael Gallagher from Sandford
  • Mr Michael Howarth from New Town
  • Dr Andrew Gibson from Riverside
  • Ms Helen Watling from Lindisfarne.

The remaining four members are:

  • Mr Terry Roe from South Arm
  • Ms Janet Munday from Pyengana
  • Ms Melanie Pike from Blackmans Bay
  • Mr Nicholas Murnane from Granton

Members of the serving and ex-service community are encouraged to provide the Council with feedback and information about issues that affect them, particularly issues for which the Tasmanian Government is responsible.

To assist with this, the Council will be conducting forums with times and dates to be published on www.dpac.tas.gov.au/divisions/cdd/policy/advisory_groups/tvac and in daily newspapers.

The Council can be contacted by email tvac@dpac.tas.gov.au or by telephone on 6232 7143.
