New appointments to MAIB a step forward in meeting women on boards commitment

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to increasing the number of women on boards as a critical step to improving democratic governance.

The Government has a target of achieving 50 per cent representation of women across Tasmanian Government boards and committees by July 2020.

Today, I am pleased to announce that two women have recently been appointed to vacancies on the Motor Accident Insurance Board.

Experienced actuary Elaine Collins, a former partner at Deloitte, and lawyer Kate Cuthbertson will both join the board.

Their appointment means that, at the end of a period of transition, the board will have three men and two women.

This is a great outcome with two highly experienced and qualified individuals joining the MAIB, which, as an employer, has 33 of its 41 staff being women.

The revised Women on Boards Strategy 2015-20 demands greater accountability on the part of the Tasmanian Government and the Tasmanian State Service to lead by example and appoint more women to board positions.

Today’s announcement shows we are making progress in achieving this target.
