Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Primary Industries and Water

New appointment for PGT and PET organisations

I am delighted to welcome the announcement today of Andrew Cameron as the new Executive Officer for Poppy Growers Tasmania and also the Workplace Relations Director for Primary Employers Tasmania.

Andrew brings a strong background in law, business and industrial relations to both roles which will help producers across a myriad of workplace and legal negotiations at a challenging time for the rural sector.

Andrew relocated to Tasmania from NSW with his family 20 years ago and has worked across many fields including as a workplace relations advisor with the TCCI, an HR manager and advising across a variety of industries including wine, dairying and general farming.

Tasmania produces about 50% of the world’s pain management products and is a leader in the science, technology and development of this pharmaceutical product.

Although it is impacted by global prices and demand, the Tasmanian poppy industry has an extremely bright future along with playing a vital role in crop diversification for our farmers.

I’m sure that Andrew has the skills set to help our primary producers compete on a global scale across many fields as tariff restrictions phase out in future years and the world continues to discover our quality produce.

I would also like to pay tribute to out-going PGT and PET Chief Executive Keith Rice who has dedicated more than 30 years to these sectors.

Keith has helped guide both industries with his advice and advocacy over three decades and he should look back with great pride on his achievements.

As a mark of Keith’s professionalism and dedication, he has agreed to continue to work alongside Andrew to share his expertise about the poppy industry during the leadership transition.
