New Aged Care Facility Brings 100 Jobs

About 100 new jobs will be created with the opening of the Fairway Rise Retirement Village at Lindisfarne.

Incorporating a 91-bed residential aged care facility, 84 villas, 22 self care apartments, a community centre and a dedicated dementia facility, this $54 million project represents a significant investment in economic and social infrastructure in Southern Tasmania.

The Tasmanian Government has long supported the Fairway Rise development, and I am pleased to represent the Premier at the official opening today.

The facility we are opening today created 250 jobs in construction, with 100 ongoing positions in providing care and support for residents.

This is a project that began with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the then Government and the Clarence City Council for the development of a 9.1 hectare parcel of land in 2009.

Subsequently, the Government of the day provided a loan through the Tasmanian Development Board of $1.305 million to Southern Cross Care, and building began in May 2012.

On behalf of the Liberal Government, I congratulate all involved in seeing this new aged care facility completed on schedule.
