New affordable units opened in Riverside

Twenty Tasmanians now have new homes thanks to a Launceston development.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to helping more Tasmanians into housing, and will soon release our Affordable Housing Strategy.

Today, I was pleased to officially open the CatholicCare Tasmania development at Riverside, which has delivered 20 two-bedroom units for people living with disability and people aged over 55 years.

The units have been built under the Australian Government’s National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) and have also received $517,400 in capital and in-kind support from the State Government.

In total, the Government has contributed more than $3 million to CatholicCare Tasmania’s NRAS-funded projects, which has helped to deliver 120 new dwellings around the State.

This construction activity is not only providing new homes for those in need, it is helping to create jobs in our building industry.

CatholicCare continued its partnership with Tasmanian building company Wilson Homes to build these 20 new units, and the results of their hard work are being enjoyed by residents.

Units have been built to a minimum six-star energy rating with double glazing, insulation and heat pumps, and are part of an inviting and safe community.

Overall, the Government is on track to help organisations like CatholicCare deliver more than 1500 NRAS homes in Tasmania by the end of 2016.
