National spotlight on Tasmanian productions

Tasmanian screen productions have received an unprecedented number of nominations for the national screen industry - the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTAs) awards.

Congratulations to all those nominated, especially the Tasmanian cast and crews who worked on the nominated projects and we thank those who continue to work with locals to take our stories to the world.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has invested heavily in the screen production industry and the State is now reaping the rewards.

Through Screen Tasmania, the Government invested $950,000 in two seasons of Rosehaven which has received three nominations: Best Television Comedy Series, Best Performance in a Television Comedy for Celia Pacquola and Best Screenplay for Television for Celia Pacquola and Tasmania’s own Luke McGregor.

Season two of Rosehaven is broadcast on the ABC and internationally through the Sundance Channel.

The first episode on Wednesday night was the highest rating show in its timeslot and the number of viewers has also increased from season one.

Following its landmark six Academy Award nominations, Lion, the story of Tasmanian Saroo Brierley, received a staggering 12 nominations in the feature film categories: Best Film, Best Acting for Nicole Kidman, Dev Patel and Sunny Pawar, Adapted Screenplay, Direction, Editing, Cinematography, Sound, Score, Production Design and Costume Design.

Matt Evans’ Gourmet Farmer was nominated for Best Lifestyle Television Program.

The Hodgman Government’s investment in the screen industry - $2.1 million in 2017-18 – allows it to continue to build its capacity to develop Tasmanian stories and projects, and receive national and international recognition.
