National School Reform Agreement provides long-term funding certainty

The signing today of a bilateral National School Reform Agreement between the Tasmanian and Australian governments provides unprecedented long-term funding certainty for Tasmanian schools.

The Agreement will see an additional $490 million to Tasmanian Government schools over the next 10 years.

Today’s bilateral agreement will provide schools with resources for students with the greatest need, through:

  • Enabling government schools to make necessary educational adjustments for all students with disability.
  • A systemic approach to addressing the needs of students with behavioural challenges that are often the result of traumatic experience.
  • A systemic approach to student re-engagement with an explicit focus on the complex needs of students in Years 9 to 12.

Tasmania has high levels of disadvantage and students with disability and this funding is targeted at these areas.

The National School Reform Agreement provides significant additional resources and support for every Tasmanian school as we continue to strive for generational change in Tasmania’s education aspirations and outcomes.

The Agreement is in addition to the Hodgman Liberal Government’s Taking Education to the Next Level initiatives, which will deliver an extra $500 million over the next 10 years.

These commitments are only made possible due to the Government’s strong financial management.
