TasTAFE's commitment to providing the best quality vocational education for all Tasmanians has put the training provider in the running for a national award.
The Australian Training Awards are the peak national awards for the vocational education and training sector, recognising individuals, businesses and registered training organisations for their contribution to skilling Australia.
One of only three finalists in the Large Training Provider of the Year category, TasTAFE's shortlisting follows its success in last month's Tasmanian Training Awards.
This is great recognition for an organisation that was only formed last year with the merger of the Tasmanian Polytechnic and the Tasmanian Skills Institute, and reflects the enthusiasm and hard work of all staff.
The good news continues for TasTAFE with Burnie campus teacher Jocylyn Cross chosen as a finalist in the Excellence in Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice Award category.
Mrs Cross was nominated by the Burnie LINC and the Burnie Child and Family Centre, with support from the Burnie Community House, for her excellent and imaginative work in foundation skills, literacy and numeracy.
The Liberal Government has a strong commitment to improving Tasmania's literacy and numeracy outcomes, so it is terrific to see individuals such as Mrs Cross receiving national recognition for their work in this field.
As the Minister for Primary Industries, I am also pleased to see that Tasmania's largest training provider in the seafood industry, Seafood Training (Tasmania), is a finalist for the Small Training Provider of the Year Award.
On behalf of the Government, I congratulate all of the State's finalists, who include several category winners from the Tasmanian Training Awards, and wish them well.
The Australian Training Awards will be announced in Adelaide on November 21.
