Mother’s Day Classic 2015

As an Ambassador and MC for the Mother’s Day Classic I encourage Tasmanians to take part in the annual fun run and walk in Hobart this Sunday 10 May, to raise vital funds for breast cancer research.

3000 participants are expected to gather at the Domain Athletics Centre for the Mother’s Day Classic, which will this year surpass $25 million raised nationally since it began in 1998.

All proceeds go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to raise money for research into the prevention and cure of breast cancer.

The Mother’s Day Classic is not about crossing a finishing line. It is a celebration of hope that together we can contribute to making breast cancer history by funding life changing research. It is also a fun, inspirational and healthy morning with family and friends, and an event I wouldn’t miss.

While survival rates are improving, breast cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related death for Australian females, with 7 women dying every day around the nation. Around 350 Tasmanian women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

Hobart is one of about 100 Australian locations with Mother’s Day Classic events in 2015, with more than 135,000 people expected to take part nationally.

There will be a minute of silence to pay tribute to loved ones lost to cancer and trophies will be presented in a number of categories, including fastest competitors, largest teams and best dressed participant.

The 8km run starts at 9am and the 4km walk and run at 10am, however warm-ups will be held for both events 30 minutes prior.
