More teachers in our school farms

The recruitment of 250 new teachers in Tasmanian Government schools over the next six years has begun with advertisements for the first round of teachers out this week.

These roles are specifically targeted at delivering on our $16.1 million commitment to revitalise school farms, which includes $7.6 million for 10 new FTE school farm teaching staff.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is delivering on our long term Plan to improve the lives of all Tasmanians and we know that quality teachers in our school farms are essential for providing students interested in a career in agriculture with hands on, practical experiences to help them reach their career goals.

The first round of teachers will be in place by the start of Term 4. These roles include a State-wide Coordinator and three Network Leaders who will be based at Jordan River Learning Federation, Sheffield School and Hagley Farm Primary School.

The remaining allocation of staff will be based at a further 12 schools with farms across the state and will be in place by the start of the 2019 school year.
