More Tasmanians in full time work and record total employment

Labour force figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show full time employment in Tasmania has grown by 1,400 over the year to March 2018, with 500 full time jobs created last month.

Today there are more Tasmanians in work than ever before, with the total number of employed at a record high of 246,900.

Since the Hodgman Liberal Government was elected in March 2014, 11,800 new jobs have now been created.

The unemployment rate in March remained steady at 6.0 per cent, well below the rate of 7.6 per cent when Labor and the Greens left office. Since March 2014 there are 3,400 fewer Tasmanians unemployed.

Tasmanians are also more confident about getting a job, with Tasmania’s participation rate up 0.9 per cent over the year to March 2018.

Today’s ABS data follows recent business confidence surveys which highlight Tasmania’s positive economic direction and showed Tasmanian business confidence and conditions lead the nation.

The Hodgman Liberal Government’s long-term Plan is about putting in place the right economic framework to help businesses create local jobs.

Today’s labour force figures are yet more evidence that our Plan is delivering for Tasmanians.
