Employing more Tasmanians

Under the Hodgman majority Liberal Government, Tasmania has seen a dramatic turnaround in economic performance. For the first time in almost 15 years our economy is the strongest growing in the nation.

Today, there are more than 12,500 additional Tasmanians in work the when we came to office, including;

  • 3,000 additional jobs in the North;
  • 1,800 additional jobs in the North West;
  • 7,100 more women employed;
  • 1,400 more young Tasmanians employed;
  • 800 fewer long term unemployed Tasmanians; and
  • The unemployment rate down 0.8 percentage points.

But we know there is more to do, that’s why the 2019-20 State Budget delivers a record $3.6 billion investment in infrastructure which will underpin the creation of around 10,000 jobs over the next four years.  There are also a number of private sector projects on foot in the North such as the $300m UTAS development and hotel developments which will also create jobs in the North.

In Parliament last week Rebecca White and Labor confirmed they do not have a single economic policy other than to talk down Tasmania’s economy and our businesses which are investing to create jobs.

Tasmanians have not forgotten that under the former Labor-Green Government, 10,000 Tasmanians lost their jobs, the state-wide unemployment rate at one point hit 8.6 per cent and our state was plunged into recession.
