More success for Tasmania Police in keeping our communities safe

The Hodgman Liberal Government makes no apology for being tough on crime and criminals who are harming our peace-loving community.

We are proud of Tasmania Police’s success in cracking down on recidivist criminals in the Launceston area.

A 10-strong Tasmania Police Operation Raptor taskforce focussed on repeat offenders in its efforts to keep Tasmanian communities safe.

As a result of this targeted operation, 93 offenders were arrested and over 400 charges laid which includes firearm seizure, motor vehicle seizure and illicit drug use.

Under the Liberal Government, we have fully restored the previous cuts of 108 police officers and we are delivering on our commitment of recruiting a further 125 police officers.

A strengthened police force helps to protect our communities and vulnerable Tasmanians.  Today’s successful operation is another example of a strong and professional Tasmania Police in action.

Community members are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if they have any information that can help keep Tasmanians safer.
