More self-interested political games on pollie pay from Labor

For the second time in two weeks, Labor has wasted half a day talking about politicians' pay.

Our position is clear – we don’t support and will not accept the proposed 10.5 per cent increase, which is unaffordable and out of step with community expectations.

That’s why we’ve successfully moved to disallow the rise in the Lower House and are seeking to have it disallowed in the Upper House.

Our position is politicians' pay should be tied to the independent Wage Price Index, as recommended by the Industrial Commission, and we are committed to delivering that.

In contrast, it seems the Greens want to take the money and then give it to their favoured (mostly environmental) charities, while Labor’s position is as clear as mud.

Tasmanians are entitled to wonder why Labor keeps spending so much time focused on this issue, rather than the important issues of jobs, energy, and essential services.
