More meals for Tasmanians in need

Far too many Tasmanians rely on emergency food relief at some point in their life, through circumstances out of their control.

That’s why efforts such as today’s Foodbank and Zambrero meal packing event are so important.

The inaugural event has attracted a significant number of registrations from volunteers keen to help out by packing up to 30,000 meals. I was pleased to be among them.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to supporting Tasmanians in need.

We are providing $1.4 million to food security organisations including Foodbank.

We also assist Meals on Wheels who deliver over 175,000 meals to Tasmanians each year, and we’ve doubled our support for mobile food vans.

Congratulation to Foodbank and Zambrero for coordinating today’s event which will benefit vulnerable Tasmanians right across the state.

Thank you also to the many people who have today donated their time and demonstrated what a caring community Tasmania is.
