More Correctional Officers to increase community safety

The ranks of the Tasmania Prison Service have again been boosted today with 23 new recruits graduating from the intensive recruit training course and joining the frontline.

The new recruits join a dedicated workforce that plays a significant role in contributing to a safer community for Tasmanians.

Today’s graduation ceremony brings the total number of new Correctional Officers employed since May 2016 to 78, demonstrating our commitment to community safety.

They will play a significant role in not only maintaining  the safe and secure custody of inmates, but also by assisting prisoners in their rehabilitation to give them the best chance of returning to a successful life upon their release.

The new graduates will commence work immediately and be rostered throughout the various Tasmania Prison Services facilities.

I congratulate all the graduates and wish them all the best for a rewarding career in the TPS.
