Today’s National Centre for Vocational Education Research March 2019 quarter data shows Tasmania is leading the nation with more apprentices and trainees acquiring new skills to power our economy into the future.
Over the year to March 2019, Tasmanian trade apprenticeships have surged by 10.4 per cent, despite the national rate of trade apprenticeships declining by 0.6 per cent.

Today, Tasmania’s building and construction industry is thriving, with nation leading dwelling approvals and an economy which, for the first time in 15 years, is the strongest growing of any jurisdiction delivering more local jobs.
The ABS recently confirmed there were 3,137 dwellings approved in Tasmania during the 2018-19 financial year, up 5.8 per cent, and the only jurisdiction in Australia to see growth in approvals during the period.
Master Builders have also confirmed 2,936 new dwellings were built in the 2018-19 financial year and more than $2.3 billion in commercial and engineering construction work completed, confirming Tasmania has “…the hottest construction market in the country and has been for some time.”
The HIA Housing Scorecard shows 701 detached house starts in the March quarter of 2019, securing “the State’s strongest performance in 25 years.”
These nation leading results have not been achieved by accident, they are a direct result of the Government’s work over the last five and a half years delivering our long term Plan for Tasmania, which is taking our State from strength to strength.
