The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is delivering on its commitment to increase the supply of affordable and social housing across Tasmania.
Today we were able to help launch four new units in Latrobe designed specifically for older people, allowing them to reside in the community that they are a part of.
The units were built by a local business that employs local builders and incorporates features that are sensitive to the heritage of the existing local community.
Importantly, tenants will be sourced from the State’s Housing register.
Each unit cost approximately $250,000, with funding contributed by Housing Tasmania, Housing Choices Tasmania and the Latrobe Council.
These sorts of projects highlight the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s commitment to affordable housing and are practical examples of the progress that is being made to ease housing stress.
The Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s Affordable Action Plan 2019-2023 is a multi-faceted approach to tackling housing stress and homelessness around the state and part of a record investment of $258 million over eight years to address affordable housing.
The first quarter reports that 142 households were assisted, which means a total of 1,747 households have now been assisted through Action Plan 1 and 2, including the new supply of 1,050 affordable land lots and homes since we launched the Affordable Housing Strategy in 2015.
