MONA FOMA creates
a soundtrack to the Tasmanian summer.
Every year the festival transforms Hobart's waterfront into the perfect stage
for an eclectic blend of artists that draws an audience from across the globe.
There's no doubt word is getting out that our island is an emerging and
thriving cultural destination and events like MONA FOMA are drawing the curious
to our shores.
The Tasmanian Government is proud to provide $350,000 in funding and once again
team with MONA to deliver this major summer event for locals and our visitors
to enjoy.
MOFO creates a cultural centerpiece for Tasmania's packed summer events
calendar, which includes the Taste Festival, the 70th Rolex Sydney
Hobart Yacht Race and the Cricket World Cup.
Last summer MOFO attracted more than 28,000 people to events over five days, with almost 45 per cent of tickets snapped up by interstate or overseas festival goers.
Events like MOFO will help the Liberal Government reach our target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to the state each year by 2020, which the industry says will create 8,000 new jobs.
The Lonely Planet has ranked our state fourth on the top 10 list of regions to visit in 2015, and our profile will continue to grow next month when Restaurant Australia's Invite the World to Dinner kicks off in Hobart with 80 of the world's most influential food writers and 200 of the nation's leading culinary personalities.
That momentum could continue with the possibility of the Chinese President visiting a matter of days afterwards, creating unprecedented international exposure for Tasmania.
MONA FOMA will take place on Hobart's waterfront from January 15 to 18.
