Ministerial Changes

I am pleased to announce that Guy Barnett will join the Cabinet as Minister for Resources, and Minister for Building and Construction, which includes Consumer Affairs.

Guy comes to the Ministry with considerable experience as a Member of Parliament, including almost a decade as a Senator for Tasmania.

Since being elected to the Tasmanian Parliament as a Member for Lyons, Guy has applied that experience to his role as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, and more recently Small Business.

He has been an effective advocate for his community and champion for causes including diabetes, volunteers and veterans. Guy also brings experience as an award-winning small business operator.

Treasurer Peter Gutwein will continue the major reforms underway in planning and local government, and focus on the Government’s long-term economic reform agenda.

In addition, I will be appointing two new Parliamentary Secretaries.

Sarah Courtney MP will be appointed the Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, and Community and Veterans’ Affairs.

Roger Jaensch MP will be appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, Trade, and Red Tape Reduction.

In relation to Adam Brooks, while the audit is ongoing, he has informed me that he does not wish to be considered for a Cabinet role again until he has divested all his related business interests and his divorce proceedings are finalised.

Mr Barnett will be sworn into the Cabinet on Monday.
