Migrants’ Stories Explored

I was delighted to launch the second Namaste book series today, authored by Keiron Galloway.

This series features the fascinating stories of Eh Eh, Faisal and Isaiah, three refugee migrant men living in Tasmania.

The books tell of how and why the men fled their countries of birth and the difficult journeys that brought them to seek asylum in Australia.

The stories of these young men show the strength and resilience that individuals can find within, and serve as a profound reminder of the importance of supporting and embracing those who seek refuge in Australia.
Clear, honest story telling can influence attitudes and behaviours, and lead to cultural change.

Telling stories is essential to engage people, break down barriers of isolation within or between groups, and to explain customs and values.

The Namaste book series is an important concept and resource to help achieve this.

Migrants like Eh Eh, Faisal and Isaiah continue to enrich this country and preserve its legacy as a land of opportunity, and add to our skill reservoir and help to create a vibrant, culturally enriched and economically sustainable future.

The Namaste series is funded by the Hodgman Liberal Government’s 26TEN Strategy for Adult Literacy and Numeracy grants program.

The books will be available at no cost through LINC Tasmania, TasTAFE and other outlets.
