Mersey deal signed, sealed and delivered

The future of the Mersey Community Hospital has been secured with the 10-year, $730.4 million deal signed, sealed and delivered.

The Mersey has long been important to North West residents and this deal – that was legally executed this week – is the biggest single transfer of funds from the Commonwealth to the Tasmanian Government.

The Hodgman Liberal Government worked hard to deliver the best deal for the North West and the state – something the former Labor/Green Government could never have achieved.

We fought tooth and nail to deliver this deal. It’s a deal that provides certainty for the community as well as providing peace of mind to our hard working health staff.

We have always stood by the Mersey and it plays an important part in our health system and will continue to do so for many years to come.

The Hodgman Government has also introduced legislation to ensure that the money provided from the Commonwealth, cannot be siphoned off to fund other projects.

After 10-years the operating costs of the hospital will come under the state health Budget and regular Commonwealth health funding arrangements.
