Mersey cash in the bank

The Mersey Community Hospital cash is now in the bank, with the $730.4 million for the 10-year deal received today.

This is the biggest single cash transfer from the Commonwealth to Tasmania ever, and is testament to our commitment to get the best possible deal for the people of the North West.

The funds have been transferred to the Government's financing arm, Tascorp, where they will be quarantined and invested, with annual dividends to fund the operation of the Mersey.

The Hodgman Liberal Government fought tooth and nail for the future of the Mersey, with the deal for the hospital to come back to the state announced in April. The formal contracts were signed last week.

The Mersey plays an important part in our health system and this deal provides certainty for residents of the North West, as well as the 470 hardworking hospital staff.

The Hodgman Government has always supported the people of the North West and we will continue to do so into the future by securing the Mersey, as well as supporting the many other health services in the region.
