Mental Health Week 2017: Stronger Together

With the theme Stronger Together, Mental Health Week 2017 (October 8 to 14) is a great opportunity for the community to come together, work together and recognise the importance of good mental health.

The week highlights the importance of starting and encouraging conversations, interaction and education on mental illness and mental wellbeing at all levels of the community.

Around 60,000 Tasmanian adults experience ill-mental health each year, so we can all have a role in looking after ourselves and our loved ones.

The Hodgman Liberal Government proudly supports the week by funding the Mental Health Council of Tasmania to deliver a grants program for events held as part of the week.

A wide variety of events for all ages have been organised from King Island to Cygnet and everywhere in between, with 30 funded through the grants program.

I encourage everyone to get involved by attending an event; to think about how they can support their own mental health and wellbeing and those around them by being stronger together.

As part of the week, Mental Health Day will be recognised on October 10.

Improving mental health services is very important to the Hodgman Government, with an extra $16 million allocated in the Budget for community sector services, as well as opening up to 11 more beds to support the mental health system and providing funding for more than 100 mental health beds in the community.
