Mental Health Inpatient Unit

The Mental Health Inpatient Unit has completed its move into K-Block, marking the occupation of all K-Block floors.

The new Unit has a 17-bed ward on Level 2 West (K2W) and a 16-bed ward that includes a six-bed high dependency unit on Level 3 West (K3W).

The contemporary and modern wards provide improved patient care and amenities, with more indoor and outdoor space and light.

The new wards are equipped with recreational spaces, dining areas, meeting rooms, de-escalation and seclusion rooms.

Feedback from mental health staff working in the temporary J-Block wards helped fine-tune several of the K-Block design features, leading to better family and visitor areas and more workspace for clinicians.

The K-Block mental health wards have been designed to Australian Health Facilities Guidelines, with input from clinicians and carer and consumer representatives, including anti-ligature furniture and fittings.

The Mental Health Inpatient Unit is complemented by the two secure suites, fit-for-purpose for young people on K6W, both with their own courtyard.

I would like to thank all staff for their tireless work in continuing to provide quality patient care, while ensuring the successful move of the new Unit, which will enable better recovery outcomes and support for patients, their families and friends.
