RHH Redevelopment on track

Delivering quality healthcare is a priority of the Hodgman Liberal Government, and I am very pleased that the $689 million Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Redevelopment, which is delivering a state-of-the art health facility with capacity for 250 beds and more operating and procedure areas, will finish 2017 ahead of schedule.

The ground floor concrete slab is already completed, which was a milestone previously slated for January next year.

The 10-storey K-Block is growing up out of its foundations with the first concrete slab for level 3 already poured.

Laying K-Block’s foundations were the focus of the second half of the year with the installation of steel and concrete pilings, footings and retaining walls.

By the end of next year, the structure for all 10 floor slabs and precast façade panels are due for completion and the installation of internal walls will be well underway.

In parallel, more than $20 million in much needed site-wide infrastructure upgrades will also get underway.

The high voltage electricity system will be upgraded with the installation of two super-feeders and new infrastructure will be laid along a modern services pathway for electricity, medical gasses and firefighting water.

K-Block is being built in the least disruptive, safest and most efficient way possible for all concerned.

At the forefront of many of these works are Tasmanian subcontractors who have proven the capacity of local firms to compete on major construction projects.

I would like to thank the community for their support while the works progress to deliver a redeveloped hospital.

Background: In 2015 and 2016, the project completed over $50 million in capital works at the RHH in preparation for the demolition of B-Block, delivering 20 refurbished clinical and many administrative spaces.
