Mapping Tasmania's regional strengths for jobs growth

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to identifying ways of developing regional Tasmania to grow the economy and create jobs across the state.

The Tasmanian Government is partnering with Regional Development Australia - Tasmania (RDA Tasmania)  - to understand the capability of our regions to plan for the jobs that our communities will need in the future.

The Tasmanian Government is investing $35,000 to build on RDA Tasmania’s current regional economic development work program to identify opportunities, build industry capacity and engage with the education and training sectors.

The Tasmanian economy is showing signs of solid growth but some regions in Tasmania are experiencing different rates of growth, so it is important to target key sectors to create more jobs.

This is about Skills Tasmania planning for the future and maximising government investment with job creation and workforce participation in the new economy.

A key example of this will be the tourism and hospitality sectors which are key economic drivers for regional Tasmania and represent important growth opportunities for the Tasmania economy.

The Tasmanian Government is leading the development of a state-wide tourism strategy while understanding that the localised nature of the visitor economy requires a local ‘destination action plan’ for key locations in Tasmania.

The mapping of regional development capability will ensure that regions have the skills and expertise to implement local strategies and maximise these opportunities.
