The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to job creation, and supporting the advanced manufacturing industry is an important part of our Plan.
Maltec is a wonderful example of a North West business which has been able to bounce back after the closure of Caterpillar to the point they are currently doing double shifts to keep up with new orders and have employed four new staff.
Through the Government’s recent Advanced Manufacturing Insights into Excellence Tour of Victoria, Maltec has been able to expand its customer base and establish new markets and customer, supplying components for products sold internationally. They are continually looking out for opportunities to evolve and improve and are also currently working towards ISO accreditation.
As a Government, we believe that one of our key roles for Tasmanian industry is to be an enabler and to help open up new opportunities. Maltec is a great example of a successful Tasmanian business valuing and training its people and giving them exciting new career opportunities such as employing two new apprentices this year, and this is largely driven by the new supply contracts.
The Caterpillar Transition Taskforce is a prime example of our commitment to this important sector, and continues to support the North-West community and advanced manufacturing industry, fast-tracking hundreds of new jobs through the Advanced Manufacturing Transition Fund, which leveraged government contribution to create private investment worth nearly $10 million.
Tasmania has a proud advanced manufacturing history, and the Government will continue to work hard to ensure it has a bright future too, supporting local manufacturing industries to help secure employment for the North West.
