Major revamp for Sorell School

The Hodgman Liberal Government is getting on with the job of delivering our election commitments through our 100 day plan including our commitment to the Sorell School community for a major $22 million redevelopment of their school.

The new Kindergarten to Year 12 school will have capacity for more than 850 students and feature a new state-of-the-art Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths facility.

This facility will complement the existing Trade Training Centre and support the successful year 12 extension program.

In addition to the Kindergarten to Year 12 developments, Sorell School has been identified as the first location for an Early Learning Hub. Early Learning Hubs will provide a one-stop-shop service to families in the early years of a child’s life. Services will include health, support and outreach, just like those found in Child and Family Centres; plus, they will include Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) facilities through partnerships with the ECEC sector.

We expect to get the building works for the redevelopment underway before the end of the 2018-19 financial year.

A redeveloped Sorell School will ensure students have access to a modern learning environment, that will provide them with the best educational opportunities and drive improvements in achievements.

This building will consolidate the Kindergarten to Year 12 learning facilities for one of Tasmania’s largest school communities.
