Major investment for Launceston Defence Precinct

The Morrison Government’s $30 million election commitment to the Tasmanian Defence Innovation and Design Precinct at the Australian Maritime College in Launceston will create more than 150 jobs in the region and drive the growth of Tasmania’s defence industries and naval research capability.

Tasmania has long been renowned for our maritime industry capability and the AMC is a natural home for the Precinct which will attract more defence-related research and design projects to Tasmania.

In addition to the expected more than 150 jobs in the region each year, the Precinct project will create a further 58 jobs during the construction phase.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has been working closely with the University of Tasmania to secure investment in the Precinct which will build on Tasmania’s existing defence manufacturing and design capability.

Since the release of our first ever Tasmanian defence strategy two years ago we have already seen several Tasmanian companies score multi-million dollar supply contracts and the Precinct will significantly expand the opportunities for local design and manufacturing even further, supporting local jobs and injecting millions of dollars into our economy.

With Labor’s promise falling $10 million short, only the Morrison Liberal Government can be trusted to deliver for Tasmania’s important defence industry.
