Locals and visitors choosing to holiday in Tassie

The rest of the country has well and truly caught onto the fact that Tasmania is the place to be.

The latest National Visitor Survey confirms interstate visitors to our state has grown by an impressive six per cent in 2018.

We have captured the attention of the nation, who continue to come in large numbers to enjoy our unrivalled natural environment, premium experiences, world-class produce and unbeatable way of life.

The latest National Visitor Survey shows a massive increase in the number of Tasmanians choosing to holiday at home, with a growth of 19 per cent of intrastate overnight trips to the year ending December 2017, while intrastate day trips increased by 11 per cent to 6.16 million.

Impressively, the Survey shows Tasmanians are spending more when they travel, with total expenditure on overnight trips increasing by an outstanding 37 per cent to $576 million for the year to December 2018.

The latest figures show continued sustainable growth in interstate visitors and that even more Tasmanians are getting out and exploring our unique island home which supports local businesses and jobs right across the state.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to sensibly and sustainably growing visitor numbers to our great state, which supports over 38,000 jobs in every corner of the island.

There is no doubt it’s an exciting time for Tasmanian tourism, and we understand we must protect what is special about our way of life so it can continue to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
