Lion set to roar in Tasmania

On behalf of the Hodgman Liberal Government, I would like to congratulate Saroo Brierley and production companies See-Saw Films, Aquarius Films, and Sunstar Entertainment on the release of the feature film Lion.

The film premiered in Sydney on 19 December to a standing ovation, and showcases many iconic Tasmanian locations, including the summit of kunanyi/Mount Wellington, Cockle Creek and the Tasman Peninsular.

The production was supported by the Government through the provision of on-ground production support, and there will be a Tasmanian charity screening at the State Cinema tonight. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the ‘Indian Society for Sponsorship and Adoption’ which supports the orphanage where Mr Brierley lived before moving to Tasmania.

2016 was an exceptional year for the Tasmanian Screen industry on both the large and small screens with locally shot television productions like The Kettering Incident and Rosehaven receiving rave reviews.

We look forward to continued screen success in 2017 with the feature film Nightingale due to commence filming and the release of locally produced animations Little J & Big Cuz and Fanshaw and Crudnutt.
