Lindisfarne North to relocate to former Geilston Bay High School site

The Liberal Government is serious about improving educational outcomes for young Tasmanians to create a job-ready generation.

After months of consultation with school communities, Lindisfarne North Primary School will relocate to the vacant Geilston Bay High School site in time for the 2015 school year.

The Liberal Government supports this decision.

The Lindisfarne North Primary School Association and Department of Education have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formally agree to the school's relocation.

More than 290 students are expected to transfer to the new site next year and will be provided with ongoing support to make a successful transition.

The Liberal Government will also provide funding of $2 million to redevelop the facilities on the former Geilston Bay High School site as a high-quality primary school.

The redevelopment will include providing significantly upgraded facilities for Lindisfarne North Primary students, with access to a full sized gymnasium, larger classrooms and an oval.

Geilston Bay High has been closed since last year when the school community chose to close it and for students to go to Rose Bay High and Cosgrove High.

Tenders will be called on Saturday for a building contractor to undertake the refurbishment works at Geilston Bay.

While relocating is never an easy decision for a school community to make, it is clear that the students of Lindisfarne North Primary with benefit greatly from the improved facilities.

I congratulate the community for taking the time to carefully consider their decision and for making a decision that will benefit students of the school for years to come.

A range of options for the future use of the Lindisfarne North site will now be considered.
