Licence to grow medicinal cannabis welcomed

The Hodgman Liberal Government welcomes today’s announcement that Tasmanian Alkaloids, with their partner AusCann, an Australian medical cannabis stock supplier, have been granted a medicinal cannabis licence and a research and development licence.

This is a significant step towards AusCann and Tasmanian Alkaloids’ plan to cultivate, grow and process medicinal cannabis in Tasmania. This is great news for Tasmanian Alkaloids and the team based at their Westbury production facility.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is supporting Tasmanians to get access to medical cannabis through the Controlled Access Scheme from September 1, investing $3.75 million in our 2017/2017 State Budget.

Today’s announcement is yet another endorsement of Tasmania’s primary industries and will contribute to the Hodgman Liberal Government’s vision to increase the value of agriculture to $10 billion by 2050.
