Libraries all the vogue for online magazines

Tasmanians can now read more than 200 of the world's best-selling magazines on their personal devices for free through their LINC Tasmanian Library membership.

Tasmanians can catch specialist opinion and insight in the Economist, find out the latest celebrity gossip in HELLO! and learn all they need to know about eating their greens in the Vegetarian Times

The Zinio magazine services means LINC members can use their library card to download the magazines to their smartphones, tablets and computers.

Those without smart devices can still access print copies of many titles or view Zinio magazines on LINC computers.

This new services adds to those already existing online, including ebooks and eaudio.

Zinio has already proven popular since hitting the virtual newsstand on December 1, with early figures showing the most popular magazines are:

  • The Australian Women's Weekly
  • Woman's Day
  • Better Homes and Gardens Australia
  • New Scientist Australian Edition
  • Country Style
  • HELLO! magazine
  • ABC Organic Gardener Magazine
  • OK! Magazine
  • Australian Home Beautiful
  • Australian House & Garden

LINCs are located across the state, including at Kingston, Hobart, Rosny, Glenorchy, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, Queenstown, Bridgewater, Huonville and Scottsdale. A new LINC at George Town is currently under construction.
