In the absence of Dr Vanessa Goodwin due to illness, Leonie Hiscutt MLC will be appointed Deputy Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council, and will serve as Acting Leader.
Mrs Hiscutt has represented the north-west coast seat of Montgomery since 2013, and has supported Dr Goodwin in the Legislative Council.
Mrs Hiscutt is a committed representative of her community and respected by her colleagues both in the Liberal Party and importantly, in the Legislative Council.
This is a very challenging period for all our members and our thoughts remain with Vanessa, but it is necessary to put in place arrangements to ensure the business of government continues.
A motion will also be moved at tomorrow’s quorum call of the Legislative Council to arrange a leave of absence for Dr Goodwin. In addition, in-principle arrangements have been put in place to “pair” Dr Goodwin’s vote while she is absent.
