Legal volunteers recognised

The Launceston Community Legal Centre has recognised 17 of its Legal Literacy Volunteers today.

Volunteers play a crucial role in Tasmania each day, giving up their time to help others in the community and the Hodgman Liberal Government cannot thank them enough.

Legal Literacy Volunteers advise clients on where to seek professional help on a variety of matters, as well as how to fill in legally binding forms for Centrelink, court appearances or just provide a plain English explanation of what can be confusing bureaucratic processes.

A total of 57 volunteers work at the Launceston legal centre and this group was recently recognised at the Tasmanian Volunteering Awards with the CatholicCare Tasmania Volunteer Program of the Year award.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Community Legal Centres (CLCs) and in March confirmed our commitment with $1.2 million to the legal centres and the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania (LACT) for 2017/18.

The Hodgman Government is proud of the thousands of volunteers who go above and beyond each day, and the Legal Literacy Volunteers is one such group.
